Leftfield announce debut album anniversary tour
‘Leftism’ was released in 1995
Leftfield have announced plans to hit the road for an anniversary tour of their 1995 debut album ‘Leftism’.
The band – now led solely by Neil Barnes – will perform the record in full at five shows in May in Bristol, London, Birmingham, Manchester and Glasgow. Tickets go on sale this Friday (February 24).
Leftfield will also reissue their debut in limited edition 3xLP vinyl along with digital and 2xCD editions that will feature the original remastered album. The reissue is out on May 5.
In addition to the original tracks, there will be 11 tracks remixed by a host of artists, including Skream, Adrian Sherwood, BodyJack and Voiski.
Leftfield will play:
May 11 – Bristol Motion
May 12 – London O2 Academy Brixton
May 19 – Birmingham O2 Institute
May 20 – Manchester O2 Apollo
May 26 – Glasgow Barrowlands
The band released their last album – ‘Alterative Light Source’ in 2015, which featured collaborations with Sleaford Mods and Poliça. It was their first LP since 1999’s ‘Rhythm And Stealth’.
The video for Sleaford Mods collaboration – ‘Head And Shoulders’, featured a green monster that goes through several forms, making its way through a city and eating most of what it stumbles across.
At one point, Mods singer Jason Williamson appears from behind a phone box minus one leg, and uncovers a six-pack followed by a pair of animated breasts.
Later, a horribly infected looking monster consumes the vocalist, before eventually disappearing into space to continue its binge eating on an extraterrestrial scale.
They recently announced details of their new album, with ‘English Tapas’ due for release later this year.
The Nottingham duo’s new record and follow-up to 2015’s acclaimed ‘Key Markets‘ was recorded in Pulp guitarist Steve Mackey’s West Heath Garage studios in London and will be released on 3 March, 2017.
“Andrew walked into some random pub and saw ‘English Tapas’ scrawled on the menu board,” said frontman Jason Williamson recently. “Underneath this beautiful coupling of words were it’s components, ‘half a scotch egg, cup of chips, pickle and a mini pork pie’ It says everything about this fucking place. It’s comedy, it’s make do, it’s ignorant and above all, it’s shit.”
